Wgt:Thongsuk gives Thailand second gold
PAWINA THONGSUK won the heavyweight women's Olympic gold today with a world record-equalling
total.
THONGSUK combined a 122.5 kg lift in the snatch with a 150 kg hoist in the clean and
jerk for a total of 272.5 kg to claim Thailand's second gold and fourth weightlifting
medal of the Games.
Russians occupied the two other places on the podium, NATALIA ZABOLOTNAIA taking silver
also with 272.5 kg and VALENTINA POPOVA the bronze on 265 kg.
Despite setting a world record of 125 kg in the snatch, ZABOLOTNAIA finished runner-up
because she weighed more than her Thai opponent.
